Q&A on culture
Hi, today I want to answer and talk about 2 questions about culture.
1. Would you prefer to live in a monoculture or multicultural society? Why?
I would prefer to live in a multicultural society. I think our society can develop when it is a multicultural society. In society, we have different cultures and use different languages. Then, we try to make harmony. In this process, we can recognize the difference and grow my ability to respect others who have a different culture from myself.
Also, I want to have a lot of experiences. In a monoculture, I would live more comfortably and be able to sympathize with others a lot. However, I couldn't try to understand and learn from others there. I think in a multicultural society, I could get inspiration from a lot of elements. There might be some conflicts about culture, but I think I can learn a lot in the process of solving conflicts and problems.
2. "It is better to marry someone of the same cultural background." Do you agree or disagree?
In the past, I thought that it is better to marry someone who has the same cultural background as me. Because 'marriage' is the most important relationship and decision in a life. (Just my opinion!) However, I changed my mind when I was 15. My uncle married a Vietnamese. When he went on a business trip to Vietnam, he met her. I was surprised that he booked a flight to meet her girlfriend. I realized that nothing can be prevented in front of 'love'. After he got married, when I talked with my aunt for the first time, I was surprised again. Because she tries to learn Korean even with Korean culture. It might be hard for her because she had lived in Vietnam until met my uncle. So I touched a lot on their love.
Also, one of my favorite youtubers is 'tomotomo', they are an international couple of Korean and Japanese. I watched their videos and thought cultural background is not the most important thing in love to meet someone. Now, there are a lot of international marriages in the world. So I disagree that it is better to marry someone of the same cultural background. If they love and respect each other, then nothing can be a problem.
