After watching : Don’t put people in the box
Welcome back to my blog:) Today, I want to review two videos. There are some questions in the video, and people choose to move or stay after listening the question.
‘Don’t put people in the box’ is the title of one of the videos. I think ‘the box’ means a standard to divide people. Sometimes, people divide people by their own standards such as age, gender or presence of disability. But I think we should not divide people like that. At first, why do people divide themselves? We have learned that everyone is different and we should respect others since childhood. However, we live in a comparative society, so people estimate who is better than them, or am I better than anyone else.
In my opinion, it is a start point of discrimination. While watching the video, I thought we should keep in mind that our world consists of various subcultures. There are a lot of conflicts and controversies in our society. In a case which I already experienced, I had ear piercing when I was 15-year-old. And then, I heard a lot of arguments. Some teachers and my friends said it is the freedom of the individual. But some people such as acquaintances argued that it looks weird and they looked at me like a delinquent. I was so shocked and never pierce again after it. It was my first time to feel 'box' certainly. In the video, there was a group who have tattoos. They smiled and looked happy to meet people who have similarities. In our society(especially in Korea), there is a tendency to dislike people who have tattoos. But through this activity, I thought everyone in the world is different but have some similarities. In a case, I like to listen to K-POP and R&B. Some people may have the same taste in music but some people don’t like that. However, when we accept our differences, then we can lead harmony in society.
I also thought that the box means standard of dividing people. But when people finally realized that everyone are connected beyond the boundary of boxes, they could tear apart the stereotypes. Just like the experiment, we should always be respectful to people with sub-cultures and be reminded that we are basically sharing similarities altogether!
